Dear Fellow New Yorkers,

Education Voters believes that we all share a responsibility to ensure that all children receive the high-quality education they need to achieve success in school, in the workplace, and in life.  All New Yorkers—parents and teachers, average community residents and elected policymakers, faith leaders and business owners, teenagers and senior citizens—have a critical stake and role to play in improving educational opportunities for our young people.

Education Voters helps communities identify educational priorities and turn public demand into political will for implementing sound education policy.  Through civic dialogue, grassroots issue campaigns, and collaborating with allied education advocates, we are building a powerful movement of Education Voters to demand – and achieve – educational  equity and excellence.

Education Voters spent 2009 hosting community dialogues and listening to you and your neighbors about the challenges and potential solutions in our educational system.  We’ve worked within our communities to discuss the actions that elected officials, parents, educators, community-based organizations and community members must take to make 2010 the Year of Education in Albany and throughout our state.  We look forward to partnering with you this year and beyond to build on that dialogue and move education in New York in the right direction—toward a wiser, more just investment in our children’s—indeed, in our state’s—future.

Just a few decades ago, hundreds of thousands of passionate activists fought an epic battle for civil rights.  Because of their vision, courage and hard work, today many more Americans can choose their leaders and influence the decisions that shape our society.  Yet the battle for civil rights continues, and educational rights are at the very heart of that struggle.  So, when New York voters enter the voting booth this fall, we want them to know the education issues, know where candidates stand on those issues, and vote based on those issues.

Join us in the fight for educational equity and excellence for all New York children. Become an Education Voter!
Sincerely,

Glynda C. Carr
Executive Director
